An innovative platform for teachers and schools, re-imagining learning in diverse classrooms and hybrid settings. It features a smart resources library for math, ELA, and science, offering thousands of assessments, worksheets, and games from verified providers.
Tailor-ED's assessments provide a holistic view of students, evaluating not just proficiency but also social-emotional aspects. The platform uses data from student performance and library usage to continually refine and recommend the best resources.
About the Project:
The Tailor-ED product for teachers was a beautiful project trying to combine a real need of educators to meet what theory and academia knows about education using models that work. From an early stage it was very important to be close to the user, interviewing and testing out features regularly.
What started as a differentiation platform that recommended a full lesson plan to be used in the classroom, had to go over simplification over time. Covid forced the platform to become hybrid (to use in class and remote), and the full lesson plan had to be broken down into standalone exit tickets, and single content resources, as the users feedback concluded it was overwhelming.
The Problem
The Market
Schools waste time and money looking for effective instructional materials. Additionally, the integration of artificial intelligence, gamification elements, and remote learning solutions continues to shape the evolving market of K-12 tech tools.

The Research

Heavy workload: Teachers are often dealing with an overwhelming workload, including lesson planning, grading, administrative tasks, and additional responsibilities beyond the classroom, which can lead to burnout and impact the quality of teaching.
Classroom diversity:
Managing diverse classrooms with students of varying learning abilities and backgrounds requires tailored approaches, and teachers may struggle to meet the individual needs of each student while maintaining an inclusive and supportive environment.

Limited resources:
Insufficient access to educational resources, both digital and physical, poses a challenge for teachers in providing varied and enriching learning experiences for their students, particularly in underfunded schools.
Technological integration:
Teachers facing the hurdle of adapting to new tools, navigating digital platforms, and ensuring equitable access to technology for all students.

The K12 platform initially began as a differentiation tool but rapidly transformed into a more agile solution tailored for teachers' ease of use. Ultimately, it provided significant value for both educators and students.
From a design standpoint, it faced early challenges such as harsh color coding and UI issues. However, over time, we iterated on every aspect of the platform with extensive input from the teachers we collaborate with. This iterative process remained a guiding principle for our future projects.
The K12 started as a differentiation platform that very quickly had to evolve into a quicker lighter product that teachers can use. In many ways the product eventually did just that and gave a lot of value for both teachers and students.
On a design prospective, this was a relatively early work and was suffering from harsh color coding and UI problems. Over the years, we iterated on every part of this platform numerous times, always with great help and involvement of the teachers we work with, this will always be something to strive for on next projects.
